New Barox RY-L28-XX Series Offers Highly Secure Ethernet Transmission
barox Kommunikation AG, a global manufacturer of professional Switches, media converters and IP extenders specifically for video applications, offers its new Layer-2/3 managed Ethernet switch series RY-L28-XX for cyber-secure, high-performance Ethernet video and PoE transmission.
The new barox Switches of the RY-L28-XX series have been specially developed for the operating and performance requirements of CCTV surveillance and offer innovations that guarantee the customer more security and the installer simple setup and configuration. With a maximum of 48 x 10/100/1000Mbit/s ports, 4xSFP 1/10Gbit/s ports, 740W total PoE power and a comprehensive and intuitive Device Management System (DMS) GUI, the barox RY-L28-XX series offers 19″ managed Ethernet Switches with L3 functionalities and represents a robust solution for important CCTV applications such as retail, prisons, highways and rail transport.
Robust cybersecurity
To meet the ever-increasing demands for robust cybersecurity, barox has implemented additional firewall functions to maximize the security of IP video transmission networks. With regard to access protection and comprehensive protection of the network against unauthorized sources, barox uses its Access Protection, Management, Performance and System (AMPS), an end-to-end communication encryption technology and certificates to prevent unauthorized network access.”
With their advanced cyber-secure functionality, the Switches of the RY-L28-XX series can detect fragmented packets that indicate potentially devastating threats. In addition, the RY-L28-XX series has a definable access control list (ACL) with permissions via the barox “smart control”, which enables pro-port blocking/firewall control to prevent server hacking and illegal access at the switch level. Other security features include HTTPS/TLS-certified authentication for secure and data protection-compliant management access, user management levels, automatic and manual MAC address management, dynamically and statically managed ARP protection, IP Source Guard, ACL access control list, RADIUS and TACACS+ authentication, and the ability to separate end devices within a VLAN from private VLANs.
Uninterrupted PoE
To ensure that the cameras remain operational even when a restart is required, e.g. when changing network cameras or updating firmware, the “Nonstop PoE” function of the RY-L28-XX series can be set so that all ports are permanently supplied with power. This clever function allows all connected cameras to remain powered, which means that no important video material from the cameras is lost during routine technical interventions – a particularly important feature in high-security applications. To support efficient system operation, the Switches of the RY-L28-XX series also offer active monitoring of the PoE-powered cameras, whereby their status is continuously monitored and the switch automatically attempts to restart the camera in the event of a camera failure. At the same time, the switch can be configured to send an SNMP message as an alarm.
Device Management System (DMS) integrated into the GUI
The Device Management System from barox offers powerful support for managing security, networks and connected devices and displays a graphical live overview of the entire network topology. A port monitoring tool is also available for diagnostics, which supports service and setup requirements.
The particularly intuitive configuration and monitoring menu in the DMS displays the status of all IP cameras, Switches and servers and enables control of the device functionality as well as the rapid localization of network and device problems.
“barox has extensive expertise in the field of specialized video and data transmission and has developed the experience and tools to provide customers with extremely robust Ethernet and PoE transmission technology,” says Rudolf Rohr, barox co-founder and managing partner. “The new RY-L28-XX series perfectly addresses today’s challenges in the field of IP surveillance. In addition to the robust security and PoE performance of the series, the RY-L28 series offers the basic requirement for fast and reliable video streaming and also has Ethernet Ring Protection Switching (ERPS v2 / v3). If a cable damage occurs that could impair network operation, e.g. due to the loss of video streams, this protocol in the Switches of the RY-LGSP28 series ensures extremely fast, less than 20 ms protection and recovery switching of data traffic in ring network topologies thanks to ERPS.”
