Barox PoE Solutions Certified for Use with Raytec LED Lighting
barox Kommunikation AG, the global manufacturer of professional standard Switches, PoE media converters and IP extenders, has partnered with Raytec to support integrators and planners by verifying barox’s range of PoE Ethernet Switch products for powering Raytec’s LED spotlights.
To assist integrators in specifying and setting up reliable PoE power when installing Raytec LED lighting, barox has recently completed a comprehensive “Proof of Concept” test. The test included Raytec’s VARIO 2 Hybrid VAR2-IP-hy8-1 and VAR2-IP-hy4-1.
Reliable PoE
In the test, barox’s PoE Switches and media converters were tested for their reliable power supply to the VAR2-IP-hy8-1 and VAR2-IP-hy4-1 LED products. In addition, the ability to remotely switch the lights on and off via the barox Smart functionality was also tested. “The device test yielded excellent results,” says Rudolf Rohr, barox co-founder and managing partner. “The certified barox / Raytec PoE integration now makes it possible to configure and install new LED lighting solutions with complete confidence. barox Switches that meet the Raytec PoE parameter requirements deliver PoE in accordance with IEEE802.3af/at/bt.”

RY-LGSPTR23-26, the Switch supports PoE 4W60, 4W90 and 803bt. The LEDs work with any setting.
VI-UTP-3105; this Switch only supports the two lights when powered by the VI-1120 power supply.
Explanation:
Both LEDs work with all media converters.
The use of barox Switches for PoE power also enables the Raytec spotlights and surveillance cameras to be switched on and off remotely, for example via a Milestone VMS, whereas this is only possible manually when using an injector and technicians have to be sent to the site. “If the mains power supply fails, CCTV systems can provide temporary emergency power via a UPS battery pack,” continues Rudolf Rohr. “However, if the power failure lasts longer, the local battery power can quickly be exhausted and the system can suffer a blackout. In this case, it would be ideal to prevent total power failure and system downtime by remotely switching off certain cameras and/or lights to conserve battery power and maintain the operation of critical equipment. In contrast to simple network PoE injectors, barox Switches and their efficient PoE management can also be used to automatically control non-critical cameras or LED spotlights in order to extend battery autonomy.”
The Raytec VARIO 2 Hybrid lights were each powered by a barox PoE Switch and achieved perfect results every time, delivering the performance of a standalone infrared and a standalone white light in a single, fully integrated 2-in-1 solution. “Raytec is proud to partner with an Ethernet Switch manufacturer of the caliber of barox,” says Callum Ryder, Marketing Manager at Raytec. “We were very pleased with the excellent performance results of the barox/Raytec PoE integration test and the ability of the barox product range to power our Hybrid VAR2-IP-hy8-1 and VAR2-IP-hy4-1 IP LED lights with extremely reliable and robust PoE.”
