“PKE Gulf WLL” Selects Barox Ethernet Video Switches for Major Oil Refinery Project
One of the largest regional oil companies in the Middle East has chosen barox Ethernet/PoE Video Switches for securing its various refineries in its flagship project. Thus, they will be supplied by barox Kommunikation AG, the globally active manufacturer of professional video switches, media converters, and IP extenders.
The leading oil company in the Middle East today produces high-quality liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), gasoline, kerosene, turbine fuels, and many other petroleum products.
The IP security surveillance systems installed last year for the refineries were defined and installed by the pioneering experts for large-scale projects, PKE Gulf WLL.
PKE Gulf WLL had to consider the standards of modern production processes and high-quality products of the leading regional oil company. By using a variety of professional Ethernet Switches from barox, as well as several hundred powerful IP surveillance cameras, reliable and robust video transmission was ensured.
Oil and gas refineries, which operate around the clock, are subject to strict safety regulations. Security and process continuity are the key criteria for the success of a facility. The high-end video surveillance systems based on barox, integrated into the Milestone VMS control software, provide the oil group with HD video camera images and razor-sharp individual images for the effective securing of specific areas on the refinery premises and in the outdoor areas.
Unlike data Switches, the supplied barox video Switches are specifically designed for the high demands of video security networks and feature sophisticated integrated cybersecurity with strong “network hygiene.” Furthermore, the barox Switches used enable easy integration into third-party Video Management Systems (VMS), active PoE management and reporting, as well as the ability to monitor and operate energy management for all connected devices in the network. For user-friendliness and system reliability, barox’s interactive topology maps support simplified device management, diagnostics for error messages, and functionality in daily use.
Guaranteed Security – Even in Challenging Environments
Security measures in oil and gas facilities and infrastructures must constantly be as effective as possible. This is because the raw materials processed at these sites are typically highly flammable and explosive. “Oil and gas projects, refineries, and pipelines are among the most challenging environments in the world to secure,” says Peter Schatz, Managing Director of PKE Gulf WLL. “Extreme temperatures, remote locations, poor or no lighting conditions, hazardous technical processes, and a large number of employees are all elements that make security and protection both difficult and essential. With the specified barox Ethernet Switches, we have delivered a range of extremely robust and secure video networks along with reliably networked PoE.”
With the innovative PoE management of barox Switches, it is possible to dispense with all 60W injectors, as the Switch can directly supply up to 90W PoE per port. For example, in the event of a power failure, the autonomy times of the UPS system can be increased. Furthermore, the IR lights (or certain cameras) can be switched off earlier than the rest. This enables the transmission of an image, ensuring surveillance throughout the night.
Luis Coello, Sales Director at barox EMEA, comments: “We are pleased to supply PKE Gulf WLL with our industrial Ethernet Switches for another challenging and innovative surveillance project. The oil and gas sector is one of the most demanding industries to support, and barox stands out with durable and reliable products. The fact that a regional market leader in the oil and gas sector has chosen barox for this flagship project demonstrates its commitment to high-end hardware that meets the demands for powerful PoE – in a region known for its high humidity and extremely high temperatures. We look forward to continuing to support the petroleum industry with barox Switches specifically designed for the requirements of professional video security applications.”
